Just another Edublogs.org weblog

Wow!  Great job to all on their presentations today.  I got something from each one of them to take back to the classroom.  Now, it is just taking time to organize my information and write down how I want to utilize it. I also need to develop a folder of valuable links AND remember they are there to use!  Good luck to all in the coming year implementing something you learned!

I completed my How Did I Get Here hyperlink story.  I have enjoyed writing this as it has been fun to type what you have seen and hyerlink it to sites.  I am going to try this activitiy in my keyboarding class as I think they would enjoy it.  This would work in my computers course also for learning hyperlinking.

I also enjoyed the triad writing activity.  I would like to have time to develop something of this nature for personal reflection of my children – either one for each or one as a whole.  It is just taking (or making) the time to do so.  This activity intrigued me in many ways.

Sheryl’s found poem idea was neat too.  I am excited to also try this with keyboarding as I like to do a writing activity with the class every two weeks or so.

Great job ladies!  Excellent ideas and very usable in the classroom.

I currently use movie maker in my computer class as I demonstrated today.  I have also seen uses of movie maker for making claymations as Addie discussed.  I would like to use it for a digital storybook with the elementary.  I have done digital storybooks using powerpoint but this would be another software application my students could use for that particular project.  This program would also be useful to record speeches or demonstrations.  For example, if a student was gone, the mini lecture could be recorded and then put on the teacher’s website for the absent student to view at home.  It would also be useful for a teacher to pre-record a lecture or discussion if he or she were going to be gone and a substitute present.

Wow!  My group is learning about podcasting.  I know what podcasting is – the challenge for me is learning how to use the software, Audacity, in order to streamline audio for podcasting.  My groupies are punishing me because they think I am a tech geek I guess!  Lucky me!  ha.  But I think I’ve got it!  Fortunately I have used another software program for streaming audio files so once I figured out that is what Audacity does, it was like a lightbuld clicked on.  Slow – but hey it clicked!  I am anxious to hear the other presentations on Thursday!

I am quite hesitant about blogging.  I am not sure if its benefits yet.  I think it must be moinitored closely for both content and english mechanics.  Kids are usig chat, email, and text messaging in which frequent grammatical slang is used.  This drives me crazy when they use “u” for the word “you” for example.

Another concern I have is trying to maintain the site for grading purposes.  I know my schedule and would find it difficult to read these everyday and monitor.  In addition, keeping track of who posted to what and number of times seems tedious.

I am game to give this a try as it is something I have been considering for about a year or so.  It is a matter of setting it up and learning it.  Also, coming up with how to use this has been pondering my mind.  I know I can use it easily in keyboarding for daily or weekly writing prompts.  I would like to incorporate it into my Business Tech/Personal Finance courses too.

Humm…in addition to some other software I have to learn, I may just have to add this to my “list!”

My oldest brother, stern yet caring
A name just for me!
Don’t know where or how it became
The name – it just became me
Ring!
The call from “unknown number”
Hello…
A welling of tears of joy fill my now sparkling eyes
Bang!
Chaos! Fear!
Peace?
Afghanistan, my brother, courageous, strong
“Hi Toby! It’s me”
Comforting to hear
Relieved to know…
